EARLY DEVELOPMENT CHECK
Concerned About Your Child’s Milestones?
Screenings provide families with an opportunity to speak directly with professionals trained in early childhood development and to learn more about their child’s cognitive, physical, and social development. If needed, families receive guidance and referrals to appropriate community resources and services.
Developmental screenings are offered at community locations throughout Orange County and require pre-registration. Dates and times are available on the website calendar. **Screenings are available for Orange County residents only. Registration forms are available by mail upon request.

WHAT SCREENINGS INCLUDE
Developmental Areas We Check During Screenings
Hearing & Vision
Checks how well your child hears sounds and responds to visual cues that support learning and communication.
Dental Care
Looks at basic oral health and helps families understand how dental care supports a child’s overall wellbeing.
Emotional Health
Observes how children express feelings, interact with others, and develop early social skills.
General Health
Provides a basic check of overall development and physical wellbeing to help identify any areas that may need follow-up.
Fine & Gross Motor Skills
Reviews how children use small muscles for tasks like grasping and drawing, as well as larger movements like walking, jumping, and balance.
Speech & Language
Looks at how children communicate, understand words, and begin forming sounds, words, and sentences.

Questions About Developmental Screenings
Are developmental screenings free in Orange County?
Yes. Family Support Network offers free developmental screening events for Orange County children ages 0–5.
Where are screening events held?
Events are hosted at community locations throughout Orange County and rotate between different cities to serve families across the region.
Do screenings replace visits with my child’s doctor?
No. Developmental screenings do not replace routine pediatric care. They provide helpful insights that families can share with their pediatrician.
Do you offer Spanish translation during screenings?
Yes. Spanish interpretation is available at every developmental screening event so families can fully participate and ask questions.
What happens if the screening finds a concern?
Families receive guidance, referrals, and information about resources that may help support their child’s development.
