About us
The People & Purpose Behind Family Support Network
Family Support Network was founded in 1985 by parents who understood firsthand how overwhelming it can feel to navigate services for a child with developmental or medical needs. At the time, many families in Orange County struggled to find reliable information, coordinated services, or emotional support. FSN was created to close that gap by connecting families with resources, guidance, and a supportive community. Today, that parent-driven foundation continues to shape how we serve families across the region.
our story
Celebrating 40+ years of Helping Families across Orange County
At Family Support Network, our mission is to help families find clarity, connection, and support when caring for a child with developmental, medical, or family challenges.

1985
A Community Begins
Family Support Network was founded by parents of NICU children who recognized the lack of available support services. Their grassroots support group became the Infant Support Network.

1987
Becoming a Nonprofit
As the group grew to support more than 100 families, members formalized the organization by incorporating as a nonprofit and applying for 501(c)(3) status.

1989
Expanding the Mission
The organization becomes Family Support Network, expanding services to support children and families at risk of falling through gaps in the system.
1990-2000
Building the Foundation
FSN established its first brick-and-mortar location and began expanding programs. While also developing partnerships to deliver critical services to families across Orange County.
2001-2018
Strengthening Community Impact
Under Executive Director Linda Smith, FSN grows its impact with developmental screenings, Wraparound OC partnerships, and peer mentoring programs.
2018–2020
A Time of Transition
With the retirement of long-time Executive Director Linda Smith, the organization entered a new chapter. Expanding therapeutic services alongside its established programs.
2020
Responding to the Pandemic
With Maura Byron stepping into leadership just before the COVID-19 pandemic, FSN rapidly adapted to ensure families continued receiving essential services.
2021–2025
Renewed Commitment
In 2025, the organization celebrated 40 years of service, marking four decades of advocacy, support, and partnership with families throughout Orange County.
